CAMRA award-winning 18th-century pub & inn near Windsor Castle

Pub & Beverages

The Windsor Trooper stocks over 10 traditional ciders and a wide selection of Belgian beers, a fine wine list, and a large batch of gins. The bar was awarded Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead's CAMRA Real Cider Pub of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. A rotating lineup of food vendors, such as a pizza van in the beer garden and an Italian coffee van on weekday mornings, provides dining options throughout the day.

Rooms & Accommodation

All nine rooms at the Trooper have private entrances, ensuite shower rooms with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, and a TV. A separate two-bedroom family apartment includes a kitchen with utensils, making it suitable for families with young children. The ground-floor garden rooms offer direct access to the beer garden and come with fans provided in summer.

Entertainment & Events

Live music is hosted every Thursday evening, and a quiz night takes place on the last Wednesday of each month. The function room can be customised for private events such as wedding drinks gatherings and slideshow presentations. The beer garden closes promptly at 10pm, ensuring quiet hours for guests staying overnight.

Location & Accessibility

The inn is a 5-to-10-minute walk from Windsor Castle and the main shopping street, and a 20-minute drive from Heathrow Airport. Paid parking is available nearby, including a 24-hour car park behind Windsor College costing £12.50 for 9am to 9pm. The residential location provides a quiet setting while keeping the town centre and restaurants within easy walking distance.

Family-Friendly Features

The two-bedroom family apartment is equipped with a kitchen, two separate bedrooms, and a shower room, allowing parents and children their own space. Ground-floor garden rooms with direct beer garden access are available, and the pub provides fans for warm weather. Families visiting Legoland Resort find the location convenient, with the apartment layout recommended for young children rather than four adults.

Highlights

Pub & Ciders: CAMRA Real Cider Pub of the Year 2022 & 2023, with 10+ traditional ciders

Rooms: 9 private-entrance rooms, including a family apartment with kitchen

Entertainment: Live music Thursdays, quiz last Wednesday, function room for events

Location: 5-minute walk to Windsor Castle, 20-minute drive to Heathrow

Family: Two-bedroom apartment and ground-floor garden rooms

“The Windsor Trooper offers a unique setup-part traditional public house, part comfortable inn, and it stands out with its award-winning selection of ciders. I think the location is ideal for those eager to explore Windsor Castle and the town centre. Overall, its blend of historic charm and modern comforts makes it a particularly appealing choice in Windsor.”

Charming Stay Near the Castle

friendly staff good room room cleanliness separate entrance
The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. I liked the room size. It offered adequate space for luggage and movement. The cleanliness of the room was amazing. Check-in was simple. I could use a separate entrance from the pub, very convenient for late returns.
The staircase had a noticeable, heavy Febreze scent. I found the fragrance quite intense and somewhat overpowering.
